Nasal vitamin B12: intranasal versus intramuscular serum vitamin B12 profile in the treatment of vitamin B12 deficiency anemia.
J.Clin.Pharmacol. 34, No. 10, 1023, 1994
The serum intranasal (IN) gel vs. i.m. (IM) vitamin B12 (B12) profile was compared in 26 patients with vitamin B12 deficiency pernicious anemia, on replacement maintenance therapy. There was no evidence of nasal or systemic toxicity. The results indicate that vitamin B12 IN once wkly would be as effective as IM once mthly in maintaining serum B12 levels. *As replacement therapy, nasal vitamin B12 will improve the quality of patient care, increase compliance, assist in the containment of health care costs, and abate the accidental transmission of infectious diseases.
